Titanic, the true love
Man in the iron mask
The man in the iron mask
Starring:
LEONARDO DiCAPRIO, GERARD DEPARDIEU, JOHN MALKOVICH, JEREMY IRONS, GABRIEL, BYRNE, ANNE PARILLAUD, JUDITH GODRECHE
Directed by:
RANDALL WALLACE
IN THE UMPTEENTH VERSION of Alexandre Dumas' story about the iron-masked man and the three musketeers who rescue him from the Bastille, DiCaprio plays both King Louis XIV of France and his lead-headed twin brother. Malkovich, Depardieu, and Irons slice and dice as the brothers in arms. "There's less swashing and buckling in the movie than you might expect," says Byrne, who plays D'Artagnan, the fourth musketeer. There was, however, plenty of cutting up on location in France. "Late one night we were shooting a death scene," recalls director Wallace (who wrote Braveheart's Oscar-nominated screenplay), "and it required the highest level of emotional intensity. Just as I'm about to yell 'Action,' I notice Leo has a celery stick from craft services sticking out of his iron mask." Each cast member, in fact, dealt with stress in his own way. Recalls Byrne: "Gérard farted." (March 13)
